STORYLINE:
Explosions were seen and heard over the Gaza skyline late on Friday amid the Israel-Hamas war in the territory.
Israel has been carrying out airstrikes on Gaza Strip and is engaged in urban fighting in the north of the enclave in an effort to eliminate Hamas.
It launched the operation against the militant group after its deadly Oct. 7 surprise incursion.
Israeli officials have confirmed 41 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ground offensive began.
At least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, mainly in the initial Hamas attack.
The Foreign Ministry had previously estimated the civilian death toll at 1,400, and gave no reason Friday for the revision.
Nearly 240 people abducted by Hamas from Israel remain captive.
More than 11,070 Palestinians, two-thirds of them women and minors, have been killed since the war began.
That's according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between civilian and militant deaths.
Another 2,650 people have been reported missing.
