You know you've worried and wondered, but maybe were afraid to say the words out loud. "What if my aging parent couldn't stay at home anymore? How will they be able to afford long term nursing home care?" You've heard there was some sort of insurance that might pay for nursing home care, but you're not quite sure which one. Is it Medicare? Medicaid? What is the criteria? And what if my parent owns their home? Will the state take my parents home if they need long term nursing home care? The short answer is, yes, in many cases, your parent can keep their home and still meet the eligibility criteria for Medicaid. The longer answer is....it's complicated! In this video I'll cover the basics of home ownership and applying for long term Medicaid and give you a few ideas that just might apply to your parent as they apply for Medicaid, or MediCal, or whatever the program is called in your state. Taking care of your aging parent is hard enough, but now you also have to navigate their finances and help them figure out how to make it last in order to pay for long term care. Hopefully, this video will help clarify what is ahead and also give you a few ah ha moments!
