In nuclear medicine a small amount of radiation is used to diagnose a cancer, then a larger amount of activity can be used to treat a disease. Theranostics is a term used to reflect the mixing of diagnostics and therapeutics. In a recent clinical study using this method for treatment of prostate cancer researchers found promising results where PSA levals were significantly decreased in patients with prostate cancer.
