When police in San Antonio, Texas responded to a welfare check at a high-end apartment complex in late January, 2021 they encountered an unlikely and tragic scene.

A single bullet was shot through the front door of an apartment unit. the victim, 34-year-old Martell DeRouen was dead inside from a single gunshot to the head.

The state of the apartment told the story of a heated argument. But the door was dead-bolted from the inside - The shot, clearly made from outside of the door.

Recollections of neighbours, doorbell camera footage and a bizarre 911 call would eventually lead to the shooter - and a conclusion that few would have predicted.
