After living in Toronto for 10 years, I decided to talk a bit more about how not originally being from here has caused me some discomfort. For a long time, the attention garnered by my accent had perks. But it is a hybrid accent, which I have had since I was young, the Canadian side of it was from my mom (she is Canadian) but I was raised and went to school in South Africa and what that means is: I sound British!
