The new, “Son of Blackbird” as it is called, is slated to take to the sky by 2025
The SR-72 Darkstar is a proposed hypersonic aircraft that could fly at six times the speed of sound, or Mach 6. It is intended to be a successor to the SR-71 Blackbird, a legendary spy plane that could outrun missiles. The SR-72 is designed by Lockheed Martin and is expected to enter service in the 2030s. It could perform intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, as well as strike targets with precision weapons.
