I went to Harrison and Zinc in Arkansas, known as two of the USA's most racially tense towns. As a Japanese traveler, I explored their deep confederate history. Being in this place, my Asian identity in a mostly white community got a lot of attention, making me feel the big difference from the outside world.
Chatting with locals at spots like shops and restaurants, I got firsthand insights into how they see racism and its effects. What I learned was different from what I read online, challenging what I thought I knew. It was an eye-opening experience, uncovering the layers of Harrison and Zinc and how history and culture can shape people's views.
Join me for more explorations into the complicated dynamics of race and culture. And, of course, subscribe for more insightful adventures!

WHO AM I? My name is Shota and I'm a traveler and van conversion enthusiast. When I was 19, I left Japan and spent nine years exploring different countries and immersing myself in diverse cultures. In the past three years, I've been sharing my adventures in Japan through my YouTube channel, showcasing the lesser-known sides of the country and vanlife travel experience. When I'm not busy converting vans and ex-Japanese police buses into campervans, I'm back on the road, traveling the world and sharing my journey with others. My ultimate goal is to inspire others to embrace the diversity and vastness of the world around them.
