I found the video WhoMadeWho Live at Mayan Warrior, 2019 ( YouTube link    • WhoMadeWho live at Mayan Warrior, Bur...   while wandering the net. I'm a fan of Acid Pauli Live at Burning Man 2015    • Acid Pauli Live at Burning Man 2015   . I like the raw live quality of Pauli's performance. On my first listen to WhoMadeWho I got the impression more of warm and fuzzy than raw live. I listened again and heard hint of raw and live. Then I fell right into the rabbit hole.

This video here became a personal Burning Man live performance restoration project, aiming to restore the video to as close as possible to live. The first 50 minutes so far have got some pretty sweet sounds. Then the mix turns sweet and sour. Now is time to publish this work in progress as I've gone as far as I can in the present format and have to re-start from base. The 2.0 exercise got me through the depths of the soundtrack so it's now familiar ground. My master of 2.0 is getting scratchy!

A word about the sour. The Mayan Warrior stage is a most powerful sound machine. It gets noise complaints from folks in Reno lacking in good music taste. In rural western Nebraska, kids sit up on barn roofs in the deep silence of the predawn, listening to Burning Man Mayan Warrior performances drifting in from over the distant western horizon. The issue is all that sound energy going out with too little getting back to the performers on stage. Live on a dead stage! The horror.

In the present instance a dead stage, and that's really any stage put way the heck out in the vast desert, aside from the desert in Lawrence of Arabia, means vocal and low end sound levels are really tough to judge.

Add to the mix the band is playing to the audience and the live scene, and I know the sound had to be sweet to the audience. Now WhoWasWatching the record input levels?

In my dive into the sound track I encountered occasional waves of base trying to leap free, then a tremor, then a full blown earthquake of low frequency harmonics sweeping across the track. You can't hear that earthquake clearly in the original video as it's covered by the warm and fuzzy. Good fix guys. Really. There's schedules to meet and new works to create. Do your best and move on. That's sincere btw.

I hope you like my mix. It's sweet for 50 minutes before it gets rocky. I've tried to smooth the road to the gems along the way best I can. I think I can fix most of it, but it will take time. I like this rabbit hole so if it's OK with the band...

On a personal note, it's rare and cool to listen to music lyrics touching so close to my life. The civilized world is getting better, while the barbaric parts amazingly still exist. Death penalty for gays? That's insane.
