Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced three amended criminal law bills in Lok Sabha on December 12, 2023, which will replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act. The definition of terrorism has been updated to include "economic security", among other changes, and Section 73 has been modified in the Bharatiya Nyaya (second) Sanhita Bill to prohibit publishing court proceedings that reveal the identity of rape victims or similar offences without court permission.
