Representing the United States of America, Martin Sheridan was the current discus throw Olympic champion from the St. Louis 1904 Olympic Games when he crossed the Atlantic Ocean and arrived in London for the 1908 Games.
At first Olympic Games in the British capital, Sheridan took his athletics achievements further. He won not only his second gold medal in the discus throw, but also another gold medal in the Greek discus and a bronze medal in the standing long jump.
