Manchester City midfielder Rodri has responded to his former coach Diego Simeone, who claimed that nobody is defending in English football. Simeone, who is the manager of Atletico Madrid, made the remark after City's 4-4 draw with Chelsea last Sunday, which he described as a fun game to watch.
Rodri, who played under Simeone at Atletico before joining City in 2019, said he did not agree with his ex-boss. He said that not all teams play in the same way in the Premier League, and that many of them look to defend for 90 minutes against City. He also said that the league is tough and has strong defences.
Rodri defended the quality and intensity of English football, which he has been part of for more than two years. He said that some games are more open than others, but that does not mean that defending is a dying art in the country.
